Michelle Williams ‘Paralysed’ By ASTRONOMICAL Gender Pay Gap

Michelle Williams has responded to the eye-watering pay gap with her co-star Mark Wahlberg during the reshooting of All The Money In The World.

The Ridley Scott movie needed to be reshot following sexual assault allegations levelled at the film’s original lead, Kevin Spacey, who was replaced by Christopher Plummer.

The discrepancy between what Williams was paid less than $1000 while Wahlberg pocketed $1.5 million broke in January.

This week, Williams spoke out about the disparity, saying how she was “paralysed in feelings of futility” when she first learned the news.

“Guess what, no one cared,” she said.

“This came as no surprise to me, it simply reinforced my life-learned belief that equality is not an inalienable right and that women would always be working just as hard for less money while shouldering more responsibility at home.

“I’ve been a working actress since the age of 12. I’ve been accredited by my industry at the highest levels and that still didn’t translate to equal compensation.”

Scott had initially said that all actors involved in the reshoots did so for free, however, days later, USA Today reported that Wahlberg was paid $1.5m, and Williams less than $1,000.

Wahlberg ended up donating his salary in his co-star’s name. The agency which represents both actors, William Morris Endeavours, donated a further $US500,000, also in her name.
