The Horrific Scene From Netflix Show Making People Pass Out

Netflix have been killing it with their originals lately but they may have just taken it too far with Gerald's Game.

The thriller is based on a Stephen King novel of the same name and follows Gerald and Jessie, a couple who take off to a secluded cabin in the woods for some ~alone~ time.

But it all goes downhill - fast - when Gerald has a heart attack and dies mid-sex game, leaving his wife handcuffed to the bed.

Since no-one knows where they are or that there's a problem, Jessie is well and truly trapped; as time goes on she starts to hallucinate and hear voices and becomes frantic and panicked.

The tipping point comes when a stray dog wanders in and begins to eat the corpse of her late husband and Jessie decides she needs escape - by breaking a glass and slicing off the skin of her hands.

Viewers at a screening at the Fantastic Fest Film Festival reacted so strongly to the gruesome scene that there are reports one actually fainted; even the director admitted that it was a bit much.

"When I was reading it for the first time, I had to put the book down," Mike Flanagan told Slash Film. "It turned my stomach just reading it.

"Visually I don't think we even took it as far as he took it in the book.

"I think the hand/ glove came just about completely off. For us we had it kind of flop back down afterwards because it was just too grizzly.

"I heard people: 'Oh my God, it's even worse than described'. I don't think it actually is. I think the difference is, for all its description, the thing you never consider the sound."

Our stomachs are turning just thinking about it.

Flanagan continued: "Even when I would look away while we were shooting it and when we were editing, you can't get away from the sound.

"It's some of the most uncomfortable noise and we just crank it right up.

"We just wanted to hear every little squish and pop and stretch. It's gnarly stuff."

Honestly, how does Stephen King come up with this stuff? That dude is messed up.

Gerald's Game is on Netflix now.
