Kurt Cobain's guitar From Final Nirvana Tour up for auction
A guitar Nirvana's Kurt Cobain gave to a fan during a 1994 gig in France is going under the hammer.
The instrument, to be sold by online auction house Cooper Owen, is expected to fetch up to STG100,000 ($A184,331).
According to the seller, the black Fender Stratocaster with a white pick guard was one of five used by Cobain for "end of set jamming and destruction".
"According to James "Jim" Vincent, Kurt's guitar tech from Dec 93 onwards, Kurt had five of these lefty black and white Strats shipped by Fender," the listing reads.
Fender gave the Stratocasters to Cobain so he wouldn't smash his new Mustang model guitars at the end of Nirvana's shows.
The seller believes the five guitars were used during the American leg of the band's In Utero tour in late 1993.
Without explaining the details, the seller says Cobain gave him the guitar at the end of Nirvana's show at Palais Omnisport in Rennes on February 16 1994.
The seminal grunge band played their final show two weeks later in Munich and Cobain was found dead on April 5.
The minimum bid for the guitar is STG34,000 ($A62,672.81) and it will remain on sale until May 20.
