Phil Collins Announces "Take a Look at Me Now" Reissue

New details have unveiled about Phil Collins' recently announced solo album reissue campaign, which will launch with the November 6 release of remastered and expanded versions of the famed Genesis singer/drummer's 1981 debut, Face Value, and his popular 1993 album Both Sides.

The concept behind the initiative, which has been dubbed the "Take a Look at Me Now" campaign, is that each deluxe release will feature bonus live versions of some of the original tracks to show how those songs evolved and were transformed in a concert setting.  To a lesser extent, the deluxe editions also will include demos and B-sides from Phil's various solo album sessions.

"I've always been quite proud of my demos and have often made them available as B-sides, but with a few exceptions, I have avoided including those on these collections," explains Collins, who is personally curating the reissue campaign.  "Instead, I've focused on how nicely the songs developed when played on stage, rather than showing how they originated."

Each reissue also will feature updated cover art showing an updated photo of Phil posing the same way he did on the album's original cover.  The albums are being remastered by Nick Davis, who's worked on all of Genesis' retrospective reissues and received a Best Surround Sound Album Grammy nomination for the Genesis 1970-1975 box set.

Face Value features Collins' enduring solo hit "In the Air Tonight," as well as another top 20 single, "I Missed Again," and has sold more than five million copies in the U.S.  The deluxe edition includes live versions of "In the Air Tonight," "I Missed Again," the Genesis hit "Misunderstanding" and more.  It also contains demos of "Misunderstanding" and "Against All Odds," the latter of which wound up topping the charts as the theme to the 1984 film of the same name.

Both Sides features two top-40 hits, "Both Sides of the Story" and "Everyday," and went on to sell more than a million copies.  The deluxe edition includes live renditions of those songs and several others from the album's original track list, as well as a demo version of "Hero," a tune Collins co-wrote with David Crosby.

The deluxe edition of each reissue will be available as a two-CD set and digital download, while a 180-gram vinyl version of each album featuring just the original track list also will be sold.
