Man Who Sprang Out Of Freezer And Died Was Cold-Case Suspect
A man has died after he jumped out of a freezer at a New York eatery, and charged at restaurant workers brandishing a knife while ranting about the devil.
Carlton Henderson, 54, was staying three blocks from Sarabeth’s restaurant before he sprang from a walk-in freezer when an employee opened the door around 11am on Sunday, police said.
He yelled “Away from me, Satan!” as he ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and began threatening staff.
While scuffling with workers who were trying to grab the knife, Henderson went into cardiac arrest.
He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
Henderson had only just been released from prison last Wednesday when a judge threw out key evidence in the pending double-murder case.
He was facing murder charges in the 1988 shooting deaths of 26-year-old William Medina and 22-year-old Antonio Dos Reis.
Police still have no idea why he got into the freezer in the first place.
