This Grandad Got Stood Up On His First Date In Years

Just when we thought 2017 was going to be a better year than 2016, this story comes along and smashes our recently healed hearts into a thousand pieces all over again.

Meet Grandpa, the 73-year-old man who has, after some time alone, plucked up the courage to make his way back into the world of dating.

And it seemed to be going well; after chatting with a woman on Match.com for a while, Grandpa organised a date, bought a bunch of red roses and a box of chocolates and drove 45 minutes for the would-be couple's first date.

Poor Grandpa sat inside the restaurant, waiting alone, until he realised he had been ditched - so he made the long drive home and confided in his 16-year-old granddaughter Gabby.

Speaking to Metro, Gabby revealed that her grandfather had been heartbroken by the evening events.

"My grandpa and I are very close and we talk about dating quite a lot since he's been looking for a companion for a while now," she said.

"My grandpa was really sad considering he has never been stood up before, so he immediately came over to my house to talk to me and my mom about it."

Oh our hearts.

Gabby continued: "We instantly comforted him because being stood up can be very hurtful."

According to Gabby, her grandfather messaged the woman to tell her that she was "very rude" and that he "didn't appreciate it after all the effort he had put in", but she never replied.

Let's all agree to protect Grandpa at all costs. He is too pure for this world and we don't deserve him.
