Warning after mum finds children's room streamed online
A mother has sent a warning to all parents after she discovered that hackers had taken over the surveillance cameras in her young daughter’s bedroom.
She found a live stream of her eight-year-old twin daughters room had made it online trough an app called Live Camera Viewer for IP Cams.
The mother, who is based in Texas, said a woman in Oregon saw the live stream and posted on a Facebook page in an effort to alert the family.
The camera system allows parents to stream the feed of their cameras to their phone via their home wi-fi, so they can keep an eye on their children at all times.
But tech experts are now warning that the video systems can be vulnerable if the proper precautions are not taken.
It is believed that hackers gained access to the cameras by correctly figuring out the family’s IP addresses.
"Never did I dream that they would be getting into our camera system, into our internet," the mother said.
If you have not changed the default password on your router or internet connection, it is recommended you do immediately.
The family and the app company do not know how long the video feed was online for.
