We Now Know What Time Of Day You Should Have A Shower

If you've ever had an argument about the benefits of showering at night versus first thing in the morning, then read on. A group of specialists have analysed each practice and identified a clear winner.

They found endless benefits of showering in the morning, including waking you up, preparing you for the day ahead and even improving your skin.  

“This mindfulness can decrease inflammation in the skin by keeping levels of a hormone called cortisol capped,” said Mona Gohara, MD, associate clinical professor of dermatology at the Yale School of Medicine.

“Our skin is at its best after your skin routine is done first thing in the morning,” said Yen Reis, founder of Skin Laundry. “This is prior to facing any free radicals, sun, dirt, or debris, which inevitably attack our skin the minute we walk out the door," he continued. 

Morning showers are also great for people with oily or acne prone skin, as it stimulates the skin cells after they've relaxed during sleep. Experts say to avoid the temptation to make the water too hot as lukewarm is best. 

“While a morning shower can make your skin appear healthier, a too-hot shower can have the opposite effect, specifically for dry and sensitive skin,” said Mr. Gohara. 

While morning showers are good, evening showers are even better for you. They also benefit the skin by removing makeup, oil, dirt, and pollutants which have accumulated on your skin throughout the day. 

“Your skin naturally exfoliates and replenishes itself at night, so you leave a clean slate when the proverbial factory is open,” Mr Gohara said. 

What makes a night time shower so good for you, is it prepares you for your bedtime routine and you got to bed feeling clean.
