The Illness That Could KILL 4,000 Aussies This Year

An expert has warned that Australia is on course for a deadly flu season, that could kill 4,000 people.

More than 10,000 people caught the flu in March, which is 6,000 more than the same time last year.

Chair of the Immunisation Coalition, Robert Booy, has said that this years flu season is expected to be particularly severe.

Booy said 'This year, we expect the flu to kill at least 4,000 people which is the same number as deaths from suicide and the road toll combined.’’

'Last year was so quiet that we didn't build up enough immunity in the community, which means we never achieved "herd protection".

'It means many more people will be prone to the flu this year.'

Professor Booy said he believes that many Australian’s have brought the virus back with them after visiting the Northern Hemisphere on holiday.

According to Professor Booy's research, nearly 27,000 people have already been affected by the flu this year.

Those in New South Wales, Victoria & Queensland have been most affected.
