The One Part Of Your Face You Should NEVER Pop A Spot
Even the most avid beauty-lover finds it hard to resist giving a pesky pimple a pop, but it turns out there's a pretty terrifying reason why you SHOULD leave your blemishes alone.
Apart from spreading bacteria and risking facial scarring, picking at spots and blackheads in one particular part of your face can actually be fatal.
It's known as the "triangle of death" and no, we're not making this up; it's an actual, medically taught thing and if you don't believe us, maybe you'll believe Dr Pimple Popper.
The viral video dermatologist told Allure that the "danger triangle" is mapped out from the corners of your mouth to between the eyebrows in, well, a triangle shape.
And underneath that triangle, Dr Sandra Lee says, lies the cavernous sinus, which is where a lot of the essential nerves and blood vessels that carry blood to your brain live.
"If you ever get an infected pimple here, it has a shorter distance to get to the cavernous sinus," she said. "If the inflammation from a zit spread, there's the potential for blindness or stroke."
BUT don't panic too much; thanks to modern medicine, the risk of such an extreme infection is pretty low.
Dr Lee continued: "In this day and age, with antibiotics, we won't really let [an infection] get to that level. Obviously if a pimple gets big enough and ends up causing problems, you should see a dermatologist or a doctor about it right away."
So the moral of the story is don't pick your pimples. Ever.
