AFL Great Mark 'Bomber' Thompson Back In Court Over Drugs

AFL great Mark "Bomber" Thompson is set to return to court over drugs charges linked to a police raid at his Melbourne home.

Thompson, 54, was charged after police allegedly found bags of illicit drugs in a locked room alongside Geelong club memorabilia at his Port Melbourne address.

Methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD and MDMA were allegedly found in plastic bags during the raid on January 5.

Some of the drugs were found in a small room protected by a keypad that investigators allege only Thompson could access.

Thompson is due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court for a contest mention on Tuesday charged with seven drug-related offences, including trafficking and possession.

At the last hearing in July, Thompson's lawyers said they'd had "very fruitful" chats with prosecutors over the drugs charges but the case may still be contested.

The former footballer played in three flags with Essendon and later coached Geelong to two premierships.
