Body Of Second Boy Pulled From Swan River After Police Chase
The body of a second boy has been recovered from the Swan River as police fear for a third teenager still missing after a group of boys tried to outrun officers on Monday.
On Tuesday, police advised that the body of one teenager had been recovered from the water on Monday night.
Later that morning, police issued an update that another boy had been found dead.
“I want to extend my condolences, and the condolences of all police, to the families of the two deceased boys and their friends and this very trying time,” WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.
“This is nothing short of a tragedy that has taken these young boys’ lives.
“These are being treated as deaths in police presence, although … police didn’t physically come into contact with the two boys who disappeared underwater in the middle of the river."
He also confirmed that police were still searching for a third boy after two others of the group had been found alive in the river.
Officers were called to Tranby Road in Maylands on Monday after reports the youths were “jumping fences”. After arriving, police gave chase and, in a bit to get away, some entered the river.
Water police and mounted police officers remain at the scene.
