Speeding Melbourne Driver's Bonkers Excuse

Police have been left dumbfounded by a woman's excuse for travelling more than 50km above the speed limit.

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers stopped a speeding vehicle grey Jeep Cherokee in Campbellfield Monday afternoon about 4:20pm on Sydney Road.

The driver was travelling 137km/hr in an 80km/hr zone.

She told police she thought she was travelling within the speed limit, and didn't know her husband changed the speedometer from metric to imperial.

The car was impounded with $896.10 towing costs and the Roxburgh Park woman is expected to be charged with speed-related offences.
