Paul & Lise Stitch-Up Geoff ‘Swampy’ Marsh

All this week, in the lead-up to WA Day, Paul & Lise have been chatting to some of the iconic West Aussies they admire.

Earlier in the week, Paul & Lise spoke to Perth radio heavyweight Gary Shannon, Ten News’ Narelda Jacobs and the daughter of the legendary Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, Kim Farmer.

On Thursday, they happened to chat to Aussie cricketing champion Geoff ‘Swampy’ Marsh on a particularly auspicious day…

“This morning your son Mitch has been named Australia A skipper for the Tour to India,” Paul exclaimed.

“You must be rapt!”

Marsh said he was, and that it was a great opportunity for Mitch, who is also captain of the Western Warriors

“It’s something he’s really enjoyed doing,” he said.

Lise dug a little deeper, particularly wanting to know what Swampy’s philosophy was when raising his kids, who have grown to be some of the finest sportspeople in the country: Shaun and Mitchell who have both played Test cricket, and basketballer Melissa, who has captained the WNBL’s Perth Lynx.

“We took our kids to underage sport, just like anyone else,” Marsh said before mentioning one teeny tiny point of difference.

“People would always ask me how you knew they were so good and I guess the only reason you know that is when they, well, with the boys, they kept scoring more runs than anyone else at their age level, so you think they might have some talent… and Melissa was just playing really good basketball for her age group.”

It was here that Paul changed tack.

He said that while he could just rattle off Swampy’s stats. That he could talk about his 50 Tests for Australia, coaching Australia to the World Cup win or the 117 One Day Internationals…

But Paul didn’t. Oh no, no, no.

Instead, purely for the purposes of this chat with Swampy, Paul & Lise did a separate interview with another cricketing stalwart and previous teammate... Merv Hughes.

“Oh my god,” is all Swampy could muster.

It includes a story about sharing a room with David Boon… and it involves wearing nothing but a Baggy Green.

Check out the hilarious video up top.
