Remember When The Quokka Didn't Have The Best Rep?

Scanning the pages of Friday’s paper, Paul & Lise came across the story of Chokka the Quokka.

Basically, it was about how the quokka was again getting the Easter Bunny treatment from the Margaret River Chocolate Factory.

It couldn’t have come at a more relevant time, considering the #quokkaselfie coverage.

But that was exactly Paul’s concern.

“Are we getting a little bit quokka-heavy?” he asked, referring to celebrities taking photos with quokkas and now the chocolate quokkas.

“Now, forgive me if I’m wrong,” Paul said during Breakfast.

“But when I was a child and my parents would take me to Rottnest, I was discouraged from going near the quokkas.”

Lise agreed.

“You know what I was told?” said Lise.

“Don’t go near them because they carry sort of diseases.”

“Yes! That’s what we were told… 20 or 30 years ago!” said Paul.

It’s worth noting that sales of Chokka the Quokka have already raised more than $10,000 and, for the first time, they’ll be sold on the island from this weekend.

The chocolate will help to fund quokka conservation, including a monitoring program.
