A duck born with a defect in his left leg that left him struggling to walk has received his very own specially-tailored wheelchair.

Merlin, a domestic duck, was adopted by Goats of Anarchy Sanctuary in New Jersey last November but was immobile due to a birth defect.

The sanctuary contacted Walkin’ Pets, a business which designs and fits disabled pets with wheelchairs.

With the chair, Merlin can now freely move around, get his daily exercise, and even attend water therapy sessions to help him get back to waddling.

Merlin was fitted with his new wheels earlier this month, and lucky for us, the moment was captured on camera by Walkin’ Pets Social Media Coordinator Mikayla Feehan.

“We took a road trip to New Jersey earlier this month to visit Goats of Anarchy, who rescue disabled animals,” she said.

“Merlin was born with an injured leg and they reached out to us to fit him with a wheelchair.

“We have never made one for a duck so one of our engineers adjusted a mini quad wheelchair just for him.

“Watching him take his first steps was really cool. Once he was all rigged up, it was truly amazing.

“The wheelchair can go into water we would just recommend avoiding salt water to keep the wheelchair in tip top shape.

“To see Merlin taking his first steps in that wheelchair really warmed my heart.”

Merlin is one lucky duck!
