Well hold onto your pearls.
Word around the manor is saying that the simply spectacular Downton Abbey movie is going to be getting a sequel!
When the long-running period series first left our screens in 2016, fans of Downton Abbey were devastated at the thought of never seeing the Crawley family, and Lady Crawley’s savage comments ever again.
But this year we were treated to a feature-length film featuring all of our favourites from the OG cast, as Downton prepared for a royal visit at the country home.
And now there’s actually a report in Cosmopolitan that there’s a sequel to the motion picture in the works! Downton Abbey producer Graham Neame has confirmed the news saying that they’re working on the plot right now!
“We’re working on what the story is, and when we might be able to make it,” Mr Neame said to The Hollywood Reporter.
But this exciting news doesn’t come without it’s obstacles.
“But it’s the same as the first time around: We have to try to get everyone back together again. And that was very challenging,” he continued. “The challenge will be, is everyone available at the same time? Can we make deals with them? That will be the challenge.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard word about a possible film sequel for Downton Abbey, with the writer and the director saying that there was “potential” for a second film before the first one even came out.
“I think there always is potential,” said movie director Michael Engler to Vanity Fair.
“For me not to say, ‘Absolutely definitely this is it,, there will never be another film’, I would just be foolish. Because you end up eating your words, you know?” added writer Julian Fellowes.
“I mean, I wouldn’t mind making another film. We were very happy making this one. So let’s see what happens.”
Well, all we can say is as long is Maggie Smith is there, we’ll be there ready and rearing to watch it too!
