The internet has sharpened their pitchforks after fast fashion retailer Forever 21 threw in diet bar samples in with some online orders.
The promotion became apparent after several women began tweeting about finding the Atkins bar sample in their deliveries, most of which appeared to be from the company’s plus-size collections…
I went from a size 24 to 18, still a plus size girl, so I ordered jeans from @Forever21 Opened the package, when I looked inside I see this Atkins bar. What are you trying to Tell me Forever 21, I’m FAT, LOSE WEIGHT? do you give these to NON-PLUS SIZE WOMEN as well? pic.twitter.com/ds8kUTs7T7

It was later revealed that the samples went out during a limited time frame and that plus-size orders weren’t targeted.
“From time to time, Forever 21 surprises our customers with free test products from third parties in their e-commerce orders. The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed,” the company said in a statement to Buzzfeed News.
Not all customers, however, ended up with an Atkins bar in their orders.
Whoever got offended receiving the free yummy Atkins Bar with their @Forever21 order, I would gladly take them off your hands. 🙂 #freeisfree https://t.co/8W3106lfPb

Atkins told USA Today that they were focused on a “lifestyle nutritional approach where everyone can benefit from overall health and wellbeing,” as opposed to the weightloss element that is typically associated with their products.
