Ray Meagher, best known for his legendary role as Alf Stewart in Home and Away, has undergone emergency triple bypass heart surgery.
The 75-year-old was reportedly in the middle of a routine health check when doctors discovered three “serious blockages” in his arteries. Doctors recommended emergency triple bypass surgery.
The procedure was deemed a success, and the iconic actor is recovering in hospital.
“We were all packed up and ready to drive north, but if we had without seeing the cardiologist, well, you could have a heart attack at the wheel, you kill yourself, you kill your wife, or some other poor innocent people. It’s just horrific to think what could have happened,” Meagher told the Daily Telegraph, explaining that he was supposed to be driving up to Queensland for a getaway.
“I’m just glad to be on the planet.”
Ray is now using his own experience to remind others to get checked regularly.
“I’m not quite rearing to go just yet but it comes back again to ‘please people, get checked.’
“It doesn’t take long and there’s so much to be gained by going to the doctor and finding out the truth about your health, so you can do something about it.”
