He had one of the most iconic songs of the ‘80s – a man obsessed with his friend’s girlfriend – and Rick Springfield says the inspiration for ‘Jessie’s Girl’ was based on real life.

Speaking to Botica’s Bunch on Friday, Springfield opened up about his career-making smash hit.

“[She] was a girl I knew in a stained-glass class in 1979 and we sort of lost contact before the song was even released,” he said.

“I’d know who she was, but no girl has ever come up and said ‘I was that girl’, because I’d recognise her.”
