The world’s grumpiest cat with a permanent scowl that has inspired countless memes, a best-selling series of books and a movie has passed away, aged seven.
“Despite care from top professionals, as well as her loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately proved too tough for her to overcome,” a statement on the cat’s Twitter account reads.
“She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of mummy Tabatha (Bundesen).”

The statement adds the cat was not only a “cherished member of the family” but also “helped millions smile around the world even when times were tough”.
“Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere,” the statement reads.
Grumpy Cat, owned by Tabatha Bundesen from Arizona, rose to fame in 2012 in a viral YouTube video.
The famous feline even had her own waxwork at Madame Tussauds in San Francisco, which was unveiled in 2015.
Rest In Peace, Grumpy Cat.
