Pear trees in Marino, north of the city, are starting to drop their fruit.
After the pears fall to the ground, they start to ferment… and the birds get absolutely hammered.
Marino’s Facebook page has warned residents to keep their eyes peeled for birds, which get so tanked they pass-out on footpaths.
“Fruit is beginning to fall from Marino pear trees. For some, this is a nuisance, but pigeons are happy,” the post reassures.
“As the fruit matures and fallen fruit ferments, pigeons have partied through the season and have been seen staggering around. One pigeon was found two years ago in an unconscious state and when brought to a local vet by a concerned passerby, was diagnosed as intoxicated, and recovered after sleeping it off!”
