Almost three years to the day since a tragic accident changed their world forever, TV legend Kerri-Anne Kennerley has had to farewell the love of her life, husband John Kennerley.
Hundreds of mourners were on hand at Woollahra’s All Saint’s church for the moving funeral service.
John Kennerley died at the age of 78 on February 28 after years of health challenges following a fall from a balcony in March 2016 that left him partially paralysed.
In a 2016 interview on Seven’s Sunday Night, John said his wife had been a pillar of strength throughout his recovery.
“She has been the strength of my whole recovery,” he said.
“Without her I don’t think I would have attempted it but, as I say, she was there when I woke up and she has been with me every day.”
The couple did not have children together, but were famously devoted to each other.
In announcing his death on Instagram, Kerri-Anne said:
“It’s with a heavy heart and awful sadness that I let you know that my beautiful husband John passed away.”
“John, you were the love of my life.” She thanked the staff at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney for the care they provided to John in his final days.
Dressed in a bright cocktail dress and sparkly stilettos, Keri-Anne told friends: “John would hate me wearing black”
The ceremony was attended by mourners including fashion designer Jonathan Ward, jeweller Nic Cerrone, former News Corp boss John Hartigan, racing identifies Fran and John Ingham, Channel 10 personalities Sarah Harris and Denise Scott, Deborah Hutton, Dawn Fraser and Andrew Banks.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to Spinal Cure Australia: www.spinalcure.org.au
