While they’ve had to call time the Australian leg of their tour, Metallica have launched a new website featuring a countdown clock.
MetallicaXX.com is expected to reach zero on October 10.
No other details are available, except wild speculation that the ‘XX’ could refer to the 20 years since their live orchestral album, S&M, was released.
Last month, Metallica revisited their collab with the San Francisco Symphony to perform a selection of tracks as part of their new S&M2 concert movie, which was shot over two shows.
It was the last performance before frontman James Hetfield returned to rehab to address his addiction issues.
Messages of support have poured in for Hetfield, who has battled addiction and alcoholism for years, which were detailed in the band’s 2004 doco, Some Kind Of Monster
Two years ago, Hetfield said he had been sober for 15 years.
Metallica were due to kick off their down under leg of their tour on October 17 in Perth.
