The Foo Fighters should be touring the US on their Van Tour, but like so many bands their plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic. Though they had to switch gears, they’re making the best of it and on Wednesday (July 22) will be joining Jimmy Buffett, Jefferson Starship, New Kids on the Block and more to perform for the Fenway Sessions — a livestream benefitting the Red Sox Fund, which helps New England families in need, and Live Nation’s Crew Nation COVID-19 relief charity. All proceeds will go toward touring and venue staff.

The benefit livestream, hosted by singer-songwriter Will Dailey, airs July 22 at 7:05pm EST. See the announcement below.

The Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These” has become the anthem of quarantine. Though the song came out nearly 20 years ago, its message is fitting for the current state of the world. An all-star ensemble covered the song for BBC in April, and last month a group of UK paramedics followed suit with their own rendition of the song. Proceeds from both covers were donated to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The band has also been vocal about saving independent music venues, which have been hit especially hard by the pandemic. They were one of 600 artists to sign an open letter urging congress to aid venues during these tough times, and Dave Grohl recently penned an op-ed about the eventual return of live music.
