Australian television royalty Bert Newton is back on the road to recovery although the journey has not been entirely smooth, according to wife Patti.

Newton, 82, underwent surgery to amputate his leg in May after doctors told him that he could only have months to live had he not opted for the surgery.

Patti gave an update on Bert’s condition from next to the hospital bed.

“After a couple of complications, Bert is doing well with a little rehab and lots of laughs and love,” Patti wrote on a post shared on Sunday.

“Thanks to all the wonderful people looking after him,” she continued.

It has been a rough year for the entertainer who spent six weeks in hospital in early 2021 when a toe infection became more serious.
