Royal fans better start planning their trip to New York City because a new musical based on Princess Diana is about to hit Broadway.

The show, called ‘Diana’ reportedly starts off in 1981, ahead of Lady Diana’s royal wedding to Prince Charles in July. After they tie the knot, the Princess of Wales “faces a distant husband, an unmovable monarchy and constant media scrutiny,” according to the musical’s synopsis.

The production already made its world premiere at California’s La Jolla Playhouse for the 2018-19 season, starring Jeanna de Waal as Diana Spencer, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth II. All four actors will reprise their regal roles when the musical heads to the Big Apple.

“To bring Diana to life onstage is obviously a huge privilege,” leading actress Jeanna de Waal said in a video interview.

“I feel very daunted by the prospect, but I hope people who didn’t know about her and weren’t aware of her journey leave the theatre with an idea of what she did for the world. She made everyone feel special, from the highest person to the lowest-ranking person, and I think we want to celebrate her.”

If you don’t know whether it’ll be worth your time, don’t worry because you’re in very good hands. The show was written by the same team that produced Tony Award-winning ‘Memphis’ in 2009, with music by David Bryan, who played keyboards in Bon Jovi.
