Just four days after her husband, Peter Stefanovic, revealed he was parting ways with Nine, Sylvia Jeffreys has announced she will be leaving TODAY.
In a newly released statement, Sylvia Jeffreys explained that she will not be returning to the breakfast program in 2019.
The TV personality insists that she is ‘excited’ to explore new opportunities, having first made her debut on TODAY in 2014. Despite her departure from Nine’s flagship breakfast show, the 32-year-old will remain at the network to work on other projects.
“I’ve loved and embraced every minute of my TODAY show chapter and feel humbled to have worked with so many passionate people — hosts, studio crew, cameramen and producers — who have become my great mates. There are few shows that are fortunate to have such an engaged audience, and I thank our viewers for inviting me into their homes day after day,” she said in a statement.
“I’m thrilled to sink my teeth into a brand new project. Opportunity often knocks when you least expect it and I’m ready to dive right in to what’s ahead of me,” she added.
“Sylvia is one of Nine’s hardest-working, most talented and passionate journalists,” Channel Nine’s news director Darren Wick told Nine Honey in a statement.
“Sylvia has done a great job on TODAY, and while the team there will miss her, she’s about to embark on an exciting new challenge. Watch this space in 2019.”
According to entertainment reporter Peter Ford, Sylvia could be replaced by Tracy Vo, a presenter with Nine’s Perth news team.
Ford Tweeted: “As I reported yesterday there is also a plan to also ‘redeploy’ @SylviaJeffreys and @Tracy_Vo is favourite to move east.”

One of the few Vietnamese faces on Australian television, Tracy joined Nine News Sydney in 2007 and spent five years in the newsroom covering a wide variety of stories. In 2012, Tracy left Sydney and returned to Perth to care for her parents. There, she joined the Nine News Perth team as a reporter and fill-in presenter.
In an interview with Nine Honey, Tracy called Sylvia one of her closest friends during her time at Nine in Sydney: “Building really solid friendships like Sylvia Jeffreys and Amelia Adams, they’re still two of my closest friends, despite being on the other side of the country.”
It has already been confirmed that Richard Wilkins is being demoted from the breakfast program with former Triple J newsreader Brooke Boney taking on his entertainment reporter role.
Tipped to replace Karl Stefanovic is Brenton Ragless, an Adelaide newsreader who has been filling in on the show over the summer non-ratings period.
It has been reported that since he started earlier this month, TODAY’s ratings among female viewers has already spiked by up to 37 per cent compared to Karl’s numbers in November.
This news was particularly profound on Wednesday when it was revealed that the program beat Channel Seven’s Sunrise in the female demographic.
While it’s not confirmed, rumours have been circulating that sports reporter Tim Gilbert will also be let go after 12 years at the network.
The shake-up began with TODAY’s executive producer Mark Calvert, who left the program on December 5 following a nosedive in ratings, which plunged to a 12-year low in September.
