Just 5 days shy of 42 years since the A New Hope first graced theatres around Australia, the final trailer for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, has landed.

Due out on December 20th, the film is set to close out the massive third era of the 9-part Skywalker saga of the franchise. The latest era kicked off in 2015 with The Force Awakens, the first Star Wars film since Lucasfilm was sold to Disney. Over the past four years we’ve followed a new and old cast, fronted by Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), as they fought against the background of the First Order, set decades after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983).

Fans can expect to see the return of several favourites, such as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), presumed to be appearing as a ghost in the aftermath of his death in The Last Jedi.

Also featured in several of the trailers for The Rise of Skywalker is Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), making his first appearance in the franchise since Return of the Jedi. Lando was last portrayed in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) as a young man by Donald Glover.

The movie also sees the return of director J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, which is now the fourth-highest grossing film of all time.

The film will also feature another original soundtrack by long-time composer John Williams, so you can get yourself in the mood by paying a visit to his artist station on iHeartRadio;
