You’ve seen it in the movies and on TV but can you imagine what it’s actually like to sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ along with a million other people as you see-in the New Year in Times Square.

Thing is, Botica’s Bunch producer Greg has.

And while he said it was one of the most “magical” experiences of his life, being a regular punter at the event has it’s… challenges.

“Our winners will be very lucky,” Greg said, of course, talking about 96FM’s VIP’s for New Year’s Eve in New York City competition.

“They’re going to have access to toilets and food and all that stuff, so that’s great.”

Fred asked Greg – a non-VIP at the event – if he had to “keep it in”.

“We made friends with the doorman of a hotel, who let us go up and down to go to the toilet every now and again,” Greg admitted.

That luxury, however, didn’t last.

Greg said that what happens, is that shortly after about 6pm, Times Square revellers are ‘penned in’.

“[After that] you just have to hang on,” Greg deadpanned. “That whole thing about man nappies, that’s actually a thing.”

Cue nervous laughter from the Bunch as Greg continued.

“There’s man nappies, there’s guys that have little tubes and bottles everywhere… that actually happens.”

After an audible gasp, Lisa jumped in.

“But we must stress, our VIPs will not have to do ANY of that!”

Greg also mentioned the calibre of entertainment on the night, which was the 2015/16 new year, Green Day played before the world-famous ‘ball drop’.

“To see that ball coming down, it’s huge, it’s like a moon descending down a building – it’s just the most magical thing you’ve ever seen in your life.”

But, and get this, after the ball drops, imagine a million people – yes, a million – all singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

Shortly after that… the gated ‘pen’ area is unpenned.

“And you bolt – you go for food and the toilet,” Greg said. (we’re not entirely sure it’s in that order, either)

Lisa jumped in again saying that our VIPs won’t need to worry about ANY of that as they’ll bypass all that when they’re whisked away to the after-party.

“Our winners are going to have such a good time,” Greg said.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that, until you’ve done it, you just can’t explain it.”
