Mindhunter fans, look, sit down, we have some news, and it’s not that we already know you absolutely mowed through all nine episodes of season 2 of the hit Netflix series.

OK, so you might remember that back in August, Holt McCallany, who plays FBI special agent Bill Tench, revealed that he and exec producer David Fincher were hyped for five seasons.

“He said ‘Listen, are you ready to do this for five seasons? Because even if I fuck it up, it’s gonna go five seasons, and I don’t intend to fuck it up’,” McCallany said at the time.

“So, I’d like to think that we will continue, for as long as David is intrigued by telling this particular story.”

Now, five seasons of Mindhunter could still totally 100% happen, it looks like, for now at least, the brakes may have been firmly applied.

This was backed up recently when, this month, Jonathan Groff (who plays clean-cut FBI agent Holden Ford) told Indiewire that season 3 was, indeed, “on hold”.

Reason being is that Fincher – who’s hardly a fast mover anyway – was prioritising another Netflix project: a biopic about Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz.

“David was really specific with us about every single word, and every single turn of the scene; he was critically specific about the purpose. On the days of shooting, we would go in the room, sit down, and talk about how leaning forward could change the dynamic of a conversation,” Groff said.

Watch this space.
