If you share a Netflix password with family or mates, we come bearing bad news.
The streaming giant has announced a crackdown on password sharing.
The news comes a few months after tech firm Synamedia revealed a new system designed to detect account sharing.
“Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore,” Jean Marc Racine, Chief Product Officer at Synamedia, said in January.
“It’s a great way to keep honest people honest while benefiting from an incremental revenue stream.”
What they’re saying is, those who are caught sharing their password (to something like Netflix) could face forced upgrades to premium services or having their account shut down altogether.
Currently, up to four devices can stream Netflix at any one time but the amount of people a subscriber can share their password with is essentially unlimited.
Synamedia has kicked off trialling the system and says it will offer access to services like Netflix.
