Anthony James, best known for starring opposite Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven, has passed away at 77.
According to his obituary, the actor died just two months short of his 78th birthday from cancer.
The actor appeared seven times on Gunsmoke, and also featured on The Big Valley, Hawaii Five-O, Mod Squad, Police Story, Starsky and Hutch, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The A-Team, Simon & Simon, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Married With Children.
His breakthrough role came with the 1967 film, In The Heat Of The Night, when he was 26.
James retired from acting in the 90s, with his last role being in Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, which received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1993. Upon retiring, he focused on his art.
