One of the world’s leading classical pianists has revealed that her extremely rare, $194,000 grand piano ($AU288,700) was dropped by movers.

It took Angela Hewitt 10 days to share the “very sad piece of news” as it “has been such a shock to me that I didn’t immediately want to share it with the world.”

The handmade, one-of-a-kind piano was unsalvageable and made “no sense, financially or artistically, to rebuild this piano from scratch. It’s kaputt.”

She added that the movers were mortified and that in 35 years, this had never happened before.
