I don’t want to alarm you but Christmas is right around the corner! It’s time to whip out the decorations and start blasting those Michael Buble and Mariah Carey Christmas tunes.

Now, before you get all Grinch on the festive vibes, it’s time you hear about this study that finds people who put up their decorations early are actually happier.

Psychoanalyst Steve McKeown, founder of MindFixers and owner of the McKeown Clinic had a chat with UNILAD and had this to say:

“Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect. In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood. Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions on excitement. So, putting up those Christmas decorations early extend the excitement!”

TLDR; Christmas decorations = happy childhood memories! But, it can also mean overcompensating for past neglect.

Many people also put up decorations as a means to appear extra friendly!

Either way, I’m all for getting into the Christmas spirit as early as possible! To many it simply is just the most wonderful time of the year!
