A team of secret shoppers are being sent out to make sure food retailers aren’t charging us extra this Christmas.

The Federal Government will send out inspectors to hundreds of businesses during the festive season to make sure shoppers aren’t charged for the ice on prawns and that scales are accurate, so 2kgs of ham is, is fact, 2kgs of ham.

“When you buy prawns, you shouldn’t be paying for any water or ice that’s been used to keep them cool,” Industry Minister Karen Andrews said.

“So, the Morrison government wants to make sure that if you’re treating your family this Christmas with seafood or ham, you’re getting exactly what you pay for.”
