As part of $500 million expansion across Australia, McDonald’s will open 12 new outlets and refurb 15 more in WA.
About $90 million would be spent in WA over the next couple of years, focussing mainly on the outer suburbs and metro areas based on customer demand.
Three new Macca’s popped up in WA last year, including Byford, Forestdale and Mundaring.
WAtoday reported that Macca’s needed to claw back market share from more gourmet burger joints like Grill’d muscling-in.
McDonald’s southern region development director Tom Veale said the effort was focused on delivering the best possible customer experience with digital ordering kiosks, mobile app capability, dual lane drive-throughs, playlands, table delivery and modern décor.
“Our focus is on playgrounds and cafes which make the overall offer hard to get into a shopping centre site,” he said.
The burger industry is expected to grow 2.6 per cent to total $7.6 billion, as per a 2018 report by Ibis World.
