Prime Minister Scott Morrison announces a new $130 billion package that will go towards keeping Australians in their jobs, titled Job Keeper.
The policy will see employers be paid $1,500 per fortnight for each employee they keep over the next six months.
The payments apply to full-time, part-time and casuals who’ve been with their employer for 12 months or more. It is also available for those who have been stood down since March 1.
It’s expected that six million Australians will be eligible for the payments, which will be available from the first week of May.
Australians will not be able to use both the Job Seeker and Job Keeper program and are advised to contact their previous employer should they need to transfer over.
