Well, if this doesn’t get the attention of West Aussies… if re-elected, Labor has promised a new public holiday.

The idea is that, from next year, Easter Sunday would become a public holiday, increasing the Easter Weekend to three public holiday days, bringing WA in line with Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.

Industrial Relations minister Bill Johnston said it would benefit shift workers.

“An Easter Sunday public holiday will ensure shift workers who need to work on Easter Sunday are paid fairly,” he said.

“It will also ensure hardworking Western Australians have more time to spend with their families and friends, with three public holidays to be included in the Easter holiday weekend.”

Those required to work on Easter Sunday would have their pay increased from the ordinary Sunday rate to a public holiday rate.
