A four-day work week trial at Microsoft Japan has worked so well, productivity jumped a huge 40 per cent.
In August, office doors were closed every Friday and full-time employees were given paid leave.
Meetings were capped at 30-minutes and employees were encouraged to discuss work online instead.
It’s not just the employees that benefitted – significant savings were made on office resources.
Compared to the same time period in 2018, electricity went down by 23 percent and paper use dropped by a huge 59 percent.
Unsurprisingly, 92.1 percent of employees said they enjoyed working four days a week.
Another trial during the winter months is due to kick off soon, however, Microsoft wouldn’t be offered paid leave. Instead staff will be encouraged to take time off to ‘rest smartly’.
