WA’s peak motoring body has released its list of the cheapest and expensive cars to own and operate, with the latest data showing it’s more expensive than ever to own a vehicle.

The survey by the RAC has found we’re paying about $215 a week, considering the cost of fuel, registration, licensing, insurance and depreciation.

Alex Forrest from the RAC says it pays to do your homework.

“The Kia Rio S is an example of how you can save money by doing your research,” he told 96FM.

“It isn’t the cheapest car to purchase brand new, but it is considerably cheaper to service and insure.

“At the end of the day, it’ll cost you less overall.”

While the Kia Rio S would set customers back about $105.99 per week, this year’s most expensive car to own and operate was the Tesla Model X Electric – coming in at $497.06 per week.
