While there are only a very small handful of smaller-format (and very fancy) ‘Coles Local’ stores even in Australia, one has already taken things further in the fight against extra packaging.
The ‘Coles Local’ in Melbourne’s Fitzroy allows customers to fill up their own containers with things like freshly-ground coffee, lollies, bulk smoothie supplements, frozen fruit, cereal and granola. Meaning, no extra packaging.
There’s also an olive oil refill station from Squeaky Gate Growers Co, which saves customers a very handy 17% off at the checkout compared to picking up a bottle from on the shelf.
The new store also has a large focus on vegetarian options with just under 300 such lines stocked, of which almost 80% are vegan.
Coles Local York Street in Sydney opened last month while another in the Brisbane suburb of Ascot is also set to open any day.
