While cinemas have been officially allowed to open for more than a week, many of them haven’t – until today!

Keeping to the traditional day of movie releases, one cinema chain in Perth is opening its doors for the first time in months on Thursday, just in time for all this rainy weather.

Reading Cinemas in Belmont and Mandurah will open to a handful of session times from June 11.

The very first session kicks off at 12.15pm at both venues, with Bloodshot at Belmont and Spies In Disguise at Mandurah.

Other movies showing include:

  • 1917
  • Emma
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • The Invisible Man
  • Jojo Rabbit
  • The Current War
  • The Way Back

They’re also featuring a ‘Family Flashback’ of 2014’s Paddington from Saturday.

Not far behind will be Palace Cinemas, including at Raine Square and Cinema Paradiso, which reopen their doors on July 2. Again, a traditional Thursday.

Palace say they’ll be screening ‘a month of new releases’, including The Booksellers, Tenet and the live-action adaptation of Mulan, and you can start booking tix from June 16.

Also kicking back into gear on July 2 are our mates at Luna Palace Cinemas, which includes Luna Leederville, Luna On SX and the Windsor Cinema.

On reopening, these guys will be screening:

We’re still yet to hear from Grand Cinemas on when they’re going to reopen, but they seem pretty pumped.

While Event Cinemas told 96FM they were still “working through reopening plans and don’t have anything to announce or discuss as yet”, Hoyts confirmed to us that they were “aiming to reopen our cinemas in Australia on Thursday July 2”, they will continue to consider that date to ensure it is in line with the most up-to-date state government advice.

“We have been advanced in preparations to ensure guests and team members are in the safest possible environment,” Hoyts said in a statement.

“These measures include additional staff training, temperature checks for staff, additional cleaning protocols, in-cinema seat separation (chequerboard style), encouragement for online bookings and social distancing.”

They’ll be screening movies that were released just before the initial stages of COVID, plus a few faves including: Jojo Rabbit, Bloodshot, The Gentlemen, Sonic The Hedgehog.

“New release movies such as Tenet, Mulan, and Wonder Woman 1984 are slated to be released in the coming weeks and months.”

Don’t forget there’s still Galaxy Drive-In Theatre, which has already had a cracker reopening. Currently, they’re playing Ford V Ferrari.
