OK, so Maylands was, a couple of years ago now, named Perth’s trendiest suburb… and since then, heaps of awesome little hot nosheries and drinky spots have opened up in the area (especially that laneway, you know the one) but, unfortunately, it’s now a hotspot for a really lousy reason.

The bloke who tested positive for COVID, and subsequently sent Perth, Peel and the South-West regions into a snap lockdown, lives in Maylands with three housemates.

He had been working at the Sheraton Four Points in the CBD became unwell on January 28, phoning in sick to work and returning a positive test on Saturday night. He had been working the same floor where patients with the UK variant and the South African strain had been present. He had previously returning negative tests on January 15, 17 and 23.

It’s also understood the man was also a rideshare driver and worked his last shift on January 27.

While he and his housemates are now in quarantine, most of the places where this bloke frequented were in Maylands, including the super busy Coles (the one with the infuriating carpark), as well as several other places across the city…

Please note: anyone who lives or works in the Falkirk Avenue area including Coles, Liquorland and the Maylands shopping precinct you must present for a test.

WHERE CAN I GET TESTED?

If you’re worried that you too have visited these joints and are keen to get a COVID test, here’s where you can go…

Also, testing at the public COVID clinics is free. No Medicare card is required.

After your test, you are required by law to self-isolate unless you have been informed that you do not.

Don’t forget if you’re being tested on a hot day, bring water, a hat, sunscreen (perhaps an umbrella) and a well-charged phone as the queue could be a long one.

Also, don’t forget your mask!
