The Rosemount Hotel has decided to not screen the Melbourne Cup.
The decision comes a couple of days after the North Perth pub asked patrons their thoughts on horse racing.
“In the past few decades a lot of concerning news has come out about the treatment of horses in the horse racing industry,” the post read.
It also mentioned they were getting a “lot of phone calls from punters” keen to know if they were screening the big race.
The resounding majority of respondents said they wouldn’t support the pub showing the race, instead suggesting a ‘Nup To The Cup’ event.
This morning, The Rosie posted that they would not be screening the Melbourne Cup.
“We have decided we will not be screening the races today…” the update read, instead putting on food and drink specials to celebrate a “beautiful sunny Tuesday”.
