Four ‘reverse vending machines’ are tipped for Perth in October following a trial in Bull Creek which raised more than $21K for charity.

Same as the ol’ Cash for Cans initiative (‘memba that?), the machines exchange bottles and cans for money.

Thing is, users will be able to donate their 10c recycling refund to charity or simply pocket it.

Norwegian recycling company TOMRA will set up four machines around Perth in time for WA’s container deposit scheme which kicks off on October 1.

Machines will be located in Myaree, Osborne Park, Kelmscott and Belmont.

A trial of the machines last year at Bull Creek Shopping Centre, raised $21,118 for local charity Nudge, which gets young people into jobs and training opportunities in various industries throughout the state.
