Phase 5 of WA’s roadmap to recovery, set for Saturday week, will be delayed by a fortnight.
Mark McGowan says the number of people we have in hotel quarantine, together with Victoria’s coronavirus crisis, means the risk to Western Australians is too great.
The new tentative date for entering Phase 5 – where all restrictions are dropped apart from our hard border closures – is now August 1.
It also means that only 30,000 footy fans will be allowed at Optus Stadium for the western derby.
“I wish we could move to the next phase, I really do,” McGowan said before adding that he didn’t want to see all our hard work go to waste.
“If a slight delay means our freedoms, and our health and safety are protected, it will be well worth the wait.”
