Despite there being a global pandemic, WA still managed to completely pull it together for Telethon.
In fact, last year’s record was absolutely smashed by almost $4 million.
The final tally was $46,331,097.
Last year? $42,596,034.
Even Chairman of Seven West Media, Kerry Stokes, said this year’s event was extraordinary.
“If anyone said in April we’d be having a Telethon and we’ll all be here enjoying it and we’d raise this money, I wouldn’t have accepted it.”
One of the biggest donations was from the WA Government, where Mark McGowan said the record $5.5 million was made on behalf of taxpayers.
“Even in the toughest of circumstances, the generosity of the WA community is remarkable,” he said. “But we also know that for many WA families, 2020 has been tough.”
“Many of those same West Aussies would normally donate even more for Telethon, but this year they can’t.
“So for this reason, I’m proud to announce that the State Government, on behalf of all Western Australians, will increase its annual donation to a record $5,500,000.”
