The beloved Perth Royal Show has been cancelled in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The show had been due to start on September 26, with half a million people typically rocking up to the week-long event, which generates around $26 million in wages alone.
It’s the first time the show has been cancelled since WWII.
Premier Mark McGowan said he had received advice it would be too risky to stage the show given the inability to track and trace attendees and the difficulty associated with keeping surfaces clean.
“Obviously this news will be disappointing for many families, for many businesses and many regional communities,” he said on Tuesday.
“I hated doing this. It’s sad because the royal show is such a great event. I was looking forward to taking my own children.”
Stuff we’re really going to miss are the baby animals, Sideshow Alley, the wood chopping, the Gravitron… and the showbags. It’s the only time of year that many of us indulge in our fave insect – Bertie Beetle.
Showbags.com has all the bags that we would’ve seen at the show, and they can be shipped right to your doorstep. Whether you usually aim for toys, lollies, chocolate or bags related to fave TV shows or sporting teams, the website has the lot.
Or so we thought.
They don’t have Bertie Beetle. The icon. The king.
Anyway, a quick search showed that there is an actual Bertie Beetle collection over at Showbagshop.com which start at just $5.
