You know how between Christmas and New year you sort of forget what day it is? The mental gymnastics to work it out looks a bit easier this year.

Christmas Day will fall on a Saturday, meaning Boxing Day and two public holidays will extend the official break to Tuesday.

Of course, this also means that New Year’s Day will also fall on a Saturday, making Monday, January 3, a public holiday.

We’re also being encouraged to shop early and locally to ensure pressies don’t get caught up in online delivery delays from interstate or overseas.

From December 5, extended trading will begin to kick-in for retailers.

Sunday and public holiday trading will extend an extra four hours a day, 8am to 6pm (normally 11am to 5pm), with an additional one hour on Saturdays, 8am to 6pm (normally 8am to 5pm).

From Monday, December 13 through to Christmas Eve, larger shops can choose to open one hour earlier from 7am until 9pm on weekdays (normally 8am to 9pm).

Trading for the Australia Day public holiday on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 will also be extended four hours, 8am to 6pm.
